With a name like Fuck Art, Let's Dance the German electro dance punk trio are highly unlikely to be appearing on Later with Jools Holland any time soon. But I doubt that'll have them weeping into their Hofmeister. Forward! Future! sounds like a speeded up Kraftwerk all robotic vocals and jerky electronics. By way of contrast Deja Vu channels the ghost of Robert Smith to generate a convulsive, danceable Cure-all. It's a winning combination that'll have you shaking your groove thang like a washing machine in an earthquake.
Fuck Art, Let's Dance is the rallying cry for generation Y. Go Try
God knows what I'll do when Halloween comes around because like Fetch The Witches before them tonight's featured band Halloween Swim Team is another I was going to bring you as part of a Halloween themed special who are too good to keep under wraps until then.
The LA based synth trio have their feet firmly on terra firma but their sound is beamed direct from another planet. Slotting the band into a neat little category is almost impossible. While they clearly have a foot in the electronic camp with more than a nod to OMD, Dalek I Love You, Kraftwerk and Hot Chip they're not afraid to absorb influences as diverse as Devo, The Flaming Lips and The Beastie Boys. The brilliant Country First is a frightening, dystopean mix of Kraftwerk on steroids and The Beastie Boys. It's stormed onto the shortlist for Devil tracks of the year. The almost as brilliant Pitch Black sounds like the Doors played on a stylophone.
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water here come the Halloween Swim Team.

It sounds like one of those philosophical puzzles. When is a band not a band when it's I’m not a Band who are a band and not well not really a band. Main non band member, classical musician Stephan J is joined by other non band member Kassandra P to create a sound that melds classical, electronic beeps, industrial noise with the cutest vocals you'll find this side of a Care Bears picnic. It sounds like Mozart joining Daft Punk to cover early Kraftwerk and couldn't be more European if it decided to wear lederhosen and a beret and ditch it's currency to join the Euro.
Check out their cover of Joy Division's 'She's Lost Control' which manages to be both reverential and revolutionary in it's treatment. They've managed to make it sound fresh and new yet like the original. A difficult trick to pull off. They may not be a band but they're definitely my favourite non band around at the moment.
