A Riot Of Your Own

Queer RiotWhat: Queer Riot at Hot August Fringe
Where : Royal Vauxhall Tavern
When : Friday 12th August 7pm - 10pm

Queer Riot returns to the Hot August Fringe in 2012 to showcase and celebrate a night of in-yer-face, inspiring, fuck-you underground queer music. Crammed into 3 hours are 5 of most energetic, fun and political queer/feminist musicians in the UK.

This night is designed to draw attention to the thriving art scene that is queer alternative music - something which is often forgotten about during queer arts festivals. You will not forget this night in a hurry!

Hosted by (a probably just a tad tipsy) queer electro-punk Ste McCabe, sets come from...

Atomizer
From: London, United Kingdom

This electronic, dark pop act have become somewhat legendary on the London music scene since forming in 2003. Their outrageous live act features songs about forgotten gay hero’s, powerful electro-punk music and outfits to make your granny feel very, very frightened.

"Probably the most important electro band in the UK - no, definitely" - Andy Morrisson, Dandelion Radio

Candy Panic Attack
From: London, United Kingdom

This riot grrrl punk 3-piece have been around for some time now. Their music falls somewhere between the early punk of X-Ray Spex, the pure pop of Helen Love and the anger of Bikini Kill. One of the most fun punk-pop bands in the world, and that’s a fact.

"A grungier version of Helen Love, and mighty fine they are too. Fans of The Slits, Bikini Kill and the like, are sure to enjoy the short, sharp ditties by this tasty three piece" – Noisy Zine

Ste McCabe
From: Manchester, United Kingdom

A politicised, queer, feminist one-man band who uses drum machines, an electric guitar, a synth and a big mouth to bring us songs about harrowing breakdowns, murderous religious nutters and racist scallies.

“A queer-feminist-punk-poet for the people” - Time Out London

Maria and the Gay
From: Manchester, United Kingdom

This Manchester-based art-electro duo confused the hell out of the audience at last years Queer Riot, and we thought it only fair to invite them back in 2012 to do it all over again. Pure pop music with the must delightfully ramshackle approach to performance ever. AMAZING!

"A spectacle that's second to none!" - Artrocker Magazine on their performance at last years Queer Riot

The Ethical Debating Society
From: Hackney, London, United Kingdom

Raw, energetic, fresh riot grrrl punk rock fury. Front woman Tegan has a wail that could wake the dead and this band is truly a force to be reckoned with. Macho sexist idiots are unlikely to be coming through the doors of the RVT, but should they stumble in accidentally, this band will sort them out!

"The sound of excitement, of jubilation, of freedom" - Everett True
