The modern music industry is a huge conjuring trick, a sleight of hand. Give 'em the old razzle dazzle, the old hocus pocus. How can they see with sequins in their eyes? How can they hear with fireworks going off in their ears? The music industry actually died a long time ago and in 2010 it's little more than a marketing industry with a soundtrack tattooed on for effect. This ain't rock 'n roll this is marketing.
Thank god therefore for an increasing number of artists who subscribe to the old fashioned concept of less is more. In the age of internet hegemony Dog Bite's presence on the grid is a form of subversion. The all encompassing tools of marketing and promotion are used to obfuscate and obscure. It's difficult to find out much about the band/artist other than a philosophically obtuse piece on the impressive blog Pigeon Post and a perfectly pitched but ultimately un-illuminating bio on the Last.FM site.
So can the music stand on it's own hind legs? Does the Dog Bite sound benefit from the lack of distraction, the lack of the ol' razzle dazzle? Of bloody course it does. 'The Sound of Music' crackles and hisses like ghostly static from beyond the grave. It puts the minimal in minimalist and shows that less can really be more. 'The Owls' is a glitchy piano lead ode to the mighty Cassius Clay while 'Indian Houses' is a hazy lo-fi treat that sounds like shoegazing on a shoestring.
