Four hundred and five years ago one Guido Fawkes (otherwise known as Guy Fawkes) was part of a plot to assassinate King James I and restore a Catholic monarch to the throne. The 17th century terrorists planned to place gunpowder under the House of Lords and destroy the English Parliament on November 5th 1605. Which, if successful might not have achieved their mission but would have certainly brightened up the night sky over London. The plot was uncovered before they had a chance to light the blue touch paper but ever since November 5th has been celebrated with fireworks, bonfires and the burning of an effigy to Guy Fawkes. So as the UK is heavy with the heady scent of cordite tonight's post on the Devil's blog has a distinctly firework and bonfire related theme. Go Try
