Calm Palm VaporFrom: Chicago, United States
Calm Palm Vapor is a four piece post shoegazing band from the South Side of Chicago. They have just released their new album 'Morning Pacific'. Where the classic shoegazers built an ear splitting wall of sound with layer on layer of guitar 'Morning Pacific' is more sublimely melodic and wonderfully contemplative.
Hate To See You Smile is a languid, deep pool of a track conjuring up images of hazy reflections in a river, couples skimming stones, girls in floaty summer dresses kicking off their shoes. It's the sort of track you can easily get lost in. Everyday We Grow is more discordant jarring you with it's dystopean synths before morphing into a sexier Field Mice and then ending with what must be the first example of shoegazers campfire song .
'Morning Pacific' is a surprisingly soulful album that almost justifies the band's claim that their sound is a kind of space-motown. Who new that gazing at your shoes could be so interesting?
