Wow this was a surprise. I received an email from indie popsters Achille Lauro and checked out some of their early stuff via Youtube. I have to admit I was a little underwhelmed by tracks like Space Race. They were nice but insubstantial in a Coldplay by numbers kind of way. Not awful just the kind of ho hum, run of the mill music that appeals to cufflinked urban professionals to soundtrack their networking dinner parties.Then I popped No Brakes from their new album Indiscretions on the iPod and was absolutely blown away. It's like someone has injected Achille Lauro with a syringe full of heart and soul. It's a Hollywood production number which has everything except the kitchen sink thrown in. It sounds like a chaingang performing in a gospel church and I can guarantee that you won't hear anything quite like it this year. It's muscled it's way onto the shortlist for the Devil's top 10 if the year which is more than Coldplay ever did!
